Wales have announced their 26-man squad for Euro 2020.

The Dragons will be hoping to build on their strong showing last time out. At Euro 2016 Chris Coleman’s side shocked the world by progressing all the way to the semi-finals, before being dumped out by eventual winners Portugal.

Several key players from that side, including Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey and Jonny Williams, have made the cut this time around. There are a few exciting younger players as well. Manchester United’s Dan James, Chelsea’s Ethan Ampadu and Bournemouth’s David Brooks will all be playing at their first ever major tournament.

19-year-old Rubin Colwill, who currently plies his trade for Cardiff City, has also been surprisingly included. Colwill has shown promise for the Bluebirds this season and is said to have impressed at the Welsh training camp. Even still, it seems unlikely that he will earn his maiden Welsh cap at the tournament.

There were not too many controversial omissions, though the absences of midfielder Will Vaulks and West Brom forward Hal Robson-Kanu – who netted a Puskas award nominated goal at Euro 2016 – did attract discussion on social media.

Wales have a tricky group at the tournament. They kick off with a game against Switzerland on 12 June before facing off against Turkey and Italy. Rob Page will be managing the Dragons at Euro 2020 with head coach Ryan Giggs currently facing domestic abuse charges.
