Jose Mourinho believes that Sergio Ramos would prove a fantastic addition to the Premier League, amid reported transfer interest from Manchester United.
The 35-year-old has become one of the most lucrative free agents after deciding to leave Real Madrid. The La Liga giants announced the news on Wednesday evening, raising subsequent speculation over his next move. Despite the dust still settling over his exit, Ramos has confirmed two clubs he will not be joining.
However, Premier League clubs have emerged as candidates for his signature, alongside Paris Saint-Germain.
United and Manchester rivals City have both had recent links and Mourinho insists that the 180-time Spain international would fit in well in the English top flight.
“You look at Thiago Silva and he’s in a similar situation [to Ramos],” Mourinho said.
“He didn’t stay in Paris when people expected him to. He came to Chelsea, signed for one season with an option for one more, he didn’t play every match, he had a couple of little muscular issues, but he gave great stability in big matches.
“You can imagine how much he helped the team to develop and his leadership. I believe Ramos is in a similar situation.”
However, Mourinho insisted that Ramos perhaps has better traits than Silva for the Premier League.
“He is even more physical than Thiago to cope with the Premier League demands. He’s very good in the air,” the 58-year-old said.
“I have no doubts he can play with the intensity and demands of the Premier League.”
Mourinho has managed his fair share of players in the Premier League, having won three Premier League titles with Chelsea.
Man Utd have transfer alternative
Amid the interest in Ramos, though, United reportedly have an interest in his Madrid team-mate Raphael Varane.
The France Euro 2020 star is coming up to his 10-year anniversary of signing for the Spanish club.
According to one claim, United could offer two unwanted stars to fund the centre-back’s transfer.
