Following a decent run in the last couple of games, the predicted Everton team to face Liverpool could see Frank Lampard utilise an unorthodox option to get a foothold.
Despite a pretty poor run, and Everton teetering on the edge, they have managed to put in some decent performances of late. Lampard’s side shocked the league, when they beat top-four contenders Manchester United 1-0.
Following that game, they pulled a goal back late on through Richarlison, to draw 1-1 with Leicester City.
The Brazilian has been a fantastic asset for the Toffees this season and is their top scorer. Lampard spoke of the “benefit” of having a versatile player like him in the side in his pre-match press conference.
He also hinted that Richarlison could be paired with an unorthodox option, Salomon Rondon. The manager acknowledged that he was a “great option” and given the power of Liverpool’s centre-back corps, he may well be employed to rough them up.
His physical presence could be utilised, in the absence of the injured Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Last time out – Everton 1-1 Leicester City
Usual goalkeeper Jordan Pickford started in net. The centre-back pairing was Yerry Mina – who recently returned from injury – and Ben Godfrey.
Seamus Coleman was the right-back, and Vitaliy Mykolenko played on the left of the defence.
Everton have been hindered by injuries to midfielders Andre Gomes and Donny van de Beek. As such, Allan, Fabian Delph and Alex Iwobi started across the midfield.
The front three saw hitman Richarlison play, flanked by Anthony Gordon and Demarai Gray.
Predicted Everton team against Liverpool
Pickford will no doubt remain in net. The centre-back pairing could again be Mina and Godfrey. The former may be a doubt due to returning from injury recently, but Lampard will want his best players on the pitch for this crucial tie.
Coleman and Mykolenko could remain as the right and left-backs.
The midfield trio could remain as Allan, Delph and Iwobi. Indeed, Gomes and Van de Beek remain sidelined due to injury.
While Lampard hinted at a start for Rondon, he has played just 31 league minutes during the manager’s tenure. As such, the front three could also remain the same – Gordon, Richarlison and Gray.
Predicted Everton XI: Pickford; Coleman, Mina, Godfrey, Mykolenko; Allan, Delph, Iwobi; Gordon, Richarlison, Gray
